ABOUT US
The Hawaii Chess Federation is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant and inclusive chess community across the Hawaiian Islands — empowering students and adults alike through the art of strategic thinking. By hosting competitive tournaments, educational events, and community gatherings, we strive to make chess accessible to all, fostering critical thinking, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love of the game.
The HCF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and the official state affiliate of the US Chess Federation, connecting Hawaii's chess community to the broader national and international stage.
We are committed to making our mission a reality for players of every age and skill level. Throughout the school year, we host monthly K–12 tournaments featuring a variety of time controls and sections, so every young player — from first-timers to seasoned competitors — can find their place at the board. We are equally dedicated to lifelong players, offering adult sections, 18+ tournaments, and our flagship annual event, the Hawaii Open, which draws competitors from across the state and beyond for the chance to win cash prizes.
None of this would be possible without the generous support of our community. Whether you join us at an event or make a donation of any amount, your contribution helps chess thrive in Hawaii. Check our event calendar for upcoming tournaments — we hope to see you at the boards soon!
