December 2025 Scholastic Open Tournament Report

The Hawaii Chess Federation hosted its December 2025 Scholastic Open tournament on Saturday, December 13th, at Washington Middle School. The tournament, which consisted of six rounds of chess played at a time control of G/30+5 (30 minutes per player with a 5-second increment), included 75 student participants and 12 adult players.

After a long and exciting day of chess, there were a couple stand-out performances: Kasumi Choh from Punahou School won the K-8 Novice division with a score of 5.5 out of 6; and Noah Condit and J.P. Bennett, both from Punahou School, tied for first place in the K-12 Open division with scores of 5.0 out of 6. In the team competition, Punahou took first place in both the K-8 Novice division and the K-12 Open division.

Congratulations to our winners and to all participants for their hard work and dedication to chess! Our next tournament will take place on Saturday, January 10th, at Washington Middle School - we look forward to seeing you there!
