Presidents’ Day 2026 Scholastic Open Tournament Report

The Hawaii Chess Federation hosted its Presidents’ Day 2026 Scholastic Open tournament on Monday, February 16th, at Washington Middle School. The tournament, which consisted of six rounds of chess played at a time control of G/30+5 (30 minutes per player with a 5-second increment), included 129 student participants and 15 adult players.

After a long and exciting day of chess, there were a number stand-out performances: Aiden Mansanas from Kamehameha Schools won the K-8 Novice division with a perfect score of 6.0; and Skylor Chan from Punahou School won the K-12 Open division with a perfect score of 6.0. In the team competition, the Homeschool Team won the K-8 Novice division while Punahou School took first place in the K-12 Open division.
